Teaching Philosophy

When it comes to teaching, my main goal is to help you gain the knowledge and wisdom necessary to thrive in your professional career. To that end, I try to go beyond contrived textbook information to discover how these challenges are likely to manifest themselves in the working world. I strive to prepare you for ambiguity in decision making as well as how the emotions, desires, and anxieties of others affect how we go about doing our work. Beyond the course content, you will become better writers and clearer thinkers. In short, you will leave my courses better equipped to thrive in the workplace.

Within the classroom, I try to involve individuals in the learning process. From my chair, in-class activities, group discussions, and active learning interventions are preferable to lectures and I hope you agree. For online courses, I support optional class discussions over zoom to enhance learning and build community.

Our Agreements

What to expect from me

  2. I will make myself available for one-on-one guidance over phone or zoom for any student, especially if struggling.
  3. I will work to augment course content with optional synchronous sessions to expand learning and build community.
  4.  I will not only focus on your performance on course content, but also aid you in becoming a better communicator.
  5. I generally reply to questions within 24 hours. Emails are often returned within 1 hour.

What I expect from you

  1. I expect you to treat me and your colleagues with a degree of professionalism appropriate for the workplace.
