My extra work over the period years is starting to serve as a great foundation for new opportunities. Upon hearing of me losing my position, not only am I starting to be pursued for additional work from a client I have been doing a regular amount of freelance work with for some time, I was also approached by the head of adjuncts for new adjunct classes. If this works out as I hope, I will have replaced 80% of the income that I no longer get from my previous employer while only likely working 20 to 30 hours. Couple this by my taking Josh out of daycare for reasons more than just financial, reducing gas and wear on my car, and my ability to do more of the cooking at home, it may be that we might be in better shape.
Best of all, the additional freedom and time will allow me to work on developing more clients and developing great learning tools for them.
For a long time, I have said that getting paid by the hour is the worst way to get paid for what you are worth. It may be that I’ve arrived at the point in my head and in my heart that I can transcend hourly earnings myself. I’m excited about the prospect!
